How do you want to feel when you are walking down the aisle? Elegant, ecstatic, innocent or bold?
So many brides/grooms ask the DJ, what are popular songs to walk down the aisle to? Or better yet, they wonder if the song they are thinking about using is appropriate. The truth is there is no right or wrong when picking out your song. Afterall, this is that sweet moment you have been dreaming about since you met your other half. Well, if there are no limits to what you can pick that can seem even more daunting in your selection, right? I totally get it. Being a DJ myself, I thought of some guidelines couples could use in helping with their selecting process. So here are some things to think about when choosing your wedding song to walk down the aisle to:
- How do you want to feel when you are walking down the aisle? Elegant, ecstatic, innocent or bold?
- Would you like something upbeat, dramatic or sentimental?
- Would you like a song with words, an instrumental version or orchestral music like a string quartet?
Let’s start with the first question. How do you want to feel as the bride/groom walking down the aisle? This question can help immensely with picking out your wedding song. The reason for this is simple. Music is a feeling. If you can tap into how you want to feel in those few minutes before you say “I do” then you are halfway to picking out the perfect wedding song. Subsequently, this feeling will also guide you with answering the next two questions.
“ If you can tap into how you want to feel in those few minutes before you say “I do” then you are halfway to picking out the perfect wedding song. “

Once you have figured out how you want to feel, you can move on to the second question. What would you like the song you walk down the aisle to sound like? As a DJ, I have heard brides/grooms walk down the aisle to quite the variety of music. Everything from Metallica’s “Fade to Black” (intro) or Sara Barailles “I Choose You”, to Debussy’s “Claire de Lune” or “My Favorite Things” by John Coltrane. I recently had a conversation with a friend who said “Moonlight” by Arianna Grande would be their choice. This is quite the variety stylistically but again, if you have tapped into the feeling you want before saying “I do” then it should make your selection process easier. As a bonus I have created a playlist of wedding songs used by real couples that you can listen to here.
As important as it is to choose your song to walk down the aisle, making sure you have the right wedding insurance to protect your big day from the unexpected is essential. Wedding planning, needs, vendors, and budgets are different for every couple. Would you like a song with words, an instrumental version or orchestral music like a string quartet?
Finally we are at our last question. Let’s say you have selected three songs that you absolutely adore but you can’t seem to pick “the one”. That’s where question number three can be most helpful. What aesthetic are you looking for? Do you want to hear words sung by a singer or would you prefer the instrumental to one of your favorite songs? If all of that sounds too contemporary then maybe you are looking for a string quartet or a single harp playing cover. There is something elegant to hearing a string quartet. Subsequently, the subtle sound of a harp playing has more of an innocent feeling.
