As someone who has been DJing for 24 years, it’s interesting to see how dance music has evolved through the decades. Now that I have created a DJ Course one of the playlists that I give my students is labeled 90’s deep house classics. I provide 90’s music playlists since there are signature tracks from this decade that everyone will love and recognize on the dance floor. And if people recognize a track they are more likely to get up and dance.

DANCE MUSIC ROOTS
If you google “dance music” some of the first articles to come up are about EDM. Which, as someone who loves the old school makes me cringe. It’s not to say there aren’t some EDM tracks that are great. It’s just that the roots of dance music are so much more organic, funky and soulful than EDM. Of course, music will always be subjective to whoever the listener is, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to hear the difference between Chic’s “Dance” and David Guetta’s “I’m Good (Blue)”.
Speaking of dance music, I recently made a house mix for an LA radio station called 93 FM. These house tracks are my favorite of 2024 although I sprinkled in 2 or 3 older tracks in there.
