3 Factors To Determine Your Average Wedding DJ Cost
When it comes to booking vendors for your wedding, a DJ will definitely be on your list. Whether you want one for just your reception or from ceremony through reception a DJ is essential to you creating your perfect wedding day. So how much does your average wedding DJ cost? Well, the answer really depends on 3 factors.
1. Are you booking your DJ directly or through a DJ Agency?
Yes, this factor determines the cost. The reason for this is that a booking agency will add a fee on top of the DJ’s fee. So the average cost for a wedding reception is $2500 through a smaller DJ agency. If you book from a larger DJ agency the starting price is usually $3,500. These prices do not necessarily include travel time or set up and breakdown although often it is all included in the price. A full PA system is also included in this price. You might just have additional sales tax to add. Of course if you add ceremony or cocktail hour the overall price will be higher.
Now, if you book your DJ directly and NOT through a DJ agency, you might be able to get your DJ for as low as $1,000 for your wedding reception. Since now there isn’t an additional finders fee you could haggle a bit more. That said, you would need to have a good referral for this DJ and trust that they have trusted equipment not to mention the ability to provide a Certificate of Insurance which many venues require. So proceed with caution and make sure you know what to ask your DJ.
2. How experienced is your DJ?
So the prices I listed above are starting fees. Those fees don’t necessarily ensure you get the best DJ on the block. To get a good DJ who is not a cheesy wedding DJ with real nightclub experience but has a lot of wedding experience is not easy to find! For that reason, a DJ like this will probably cost you more. Definitely well worth it though since you want a DJ who can read a room, provide top notch equipment and has a great presence as an MC.
3. Wedding Venue and Size of Your Wedding
Since you will probably be hiring your DJ through a DJ agency they will have lots of experience with most wedding venues in your area. For this reason they can determine quickly which speakers and how many speakers will be required for your space. The larger the wedding the better quality speakers are needed not to mention subwoofers for 500 + sized weddings. So take into consideration the size of your wedding when discussing pricing with your DJ. We know you can use all the help you can get when planning your special day. So here is a tool that can help you budget your entire wedding cost.
