What Makes a Good Wedding Reception Entrance Song?
Entrance songs are for when members of the bridal party make their grand entrance into the wedding reception. If it’s just the bride & groom then there is just one entrance song. If there is a bridal party that includes parents, bridesmaids, groomsmen, maid of honor and best man, then there could be anywhere from two to five wedding reception entrance songs. Regardless of the amount of songs chosen, you want to make sure to pick the RIGHT songs.
So how do you pick the right wedding reception songs? Well, I recommend picking songs that are upbeat. Not only is everyone ready to eat but they are ready to party! So picking music that will encourage everyone to clap and scream when you walk into the wedding reception is a great way to start the party.
Besides being upbeat, it’s good to pick songs that have some instrumental parts within the song. This way your DJ can MC over the instrumental parts when making the introductions. DJ’s are able to pick different cue points on their DJ software like Serato DJ and easily jump around the song this way. This way the bride and groom can walk out to a nice synth intro and then once they are announced “for the first time as husband and wife…” the chorus of the song can be prompted at the perfect time.
What Happens After the Wedding Reception Entrance Songs?
After your entrance songs, a traditional timeline says the bride and groom go into their first dance which are then followed by parent dances. This is a nice flow because then everyone can have their orders taken and toasts can get started. It’s nice to have formalities out of the way early on so this way the pressure is off and everyone can just eat and dance!
This isn’t the only way the timeline can go down though. So much of how your wedding reception takes place can depend on your catering schedule. Many weddings have an open buffet which allows for more flexibility. Other weddings have food served family style which can also alter timing of events. Regardless of your timeline, keep in mind that you want all of your formalities complete before your photographers or videographers leave!
This includes cake cutting, bouquet toss or sparkler exits. Always take into account that your photographers and videographers need to be there when these events take place. Otherwise you will miss these magical moments being documented.
